In fact, it reminds me of what Trivium was supposed to be: The influences are obvious enough and within a song or two you can tell just which records they listened to most. Their self financed debut Murder , which is unheard by me apparently was a big hit locally and put them on every major bill in town. Hacksawcracy begins with the forceful, semi-technical slugging of "Bullet Reign", in which we are introduced to the vocals of 'Chuck', which sound like a mix of Kreator's Mille and Henrik Sjiowall, who used to front The Defaced. The production is crisp and cuts through nicely with enough balls and chunk to please anybody. Formed in , they have been causing a stir in their home country. serenity dies hacksawcracy

As I've already warned, some will instantly be turned out by the fact the band does not shy away from modern or not so modern, by this time groove elements placed within the haxksawcracy context.

The band is never out of focus for a second and always sounds together and tight. Bands alphabetical country genre Labels alphabetical country Reviews R. This is not a bad thing.

Serenity Dies – Hacksawcracy Review

These songs are accessible enough for anybody, metalhead or not. I think the band could improve by dropping a few of the more basal, generic riff patterns mostly heard in the first two trackssince they are obviously capable of far more, but with the proper motivation and career choices, they have the potential to make an impact far beyond their island borders.

The only thing that might turn off the more metal elite are the choruses, which often reach the point of being too melodic and bringing the songs from metal to hard rock. I had no exposure to the band's self-released debut Murder inbut they've apparently been carefully honing their blades in the ensuing period to make sure that they'd be remembered this time. You did not vote yet. This is a modern thrash band who take a reasonably groove oriented approach to the genre, without flubbing it up and having themselves written off as nu-metal.

In typical American fashion, I had not even ever heard of the country until the tragic tsunamis a few years back that consumed much of that part of the world under water. This is a good sereenity to take their place.

The Maldives may have arrived at jacksawcracy metal scene only recently, because I can't say I've ever heard a band of this sort coming from that region of the Indian Ocean before.

A few of the riffs here are the sort of typical, annoying groove metal you'd expect out of a 90s Ozzfest lineup, but the rest are pure, clean and punchy thrashing bliss, enough so that it all comes together quite nicely. Maldives is not a country that hacksawcray hear about often. Yet they still have enough meat in them to keep a veteran happy as well. The songs are mid paced for the most part, more emphasis is put on melody, and hackzawcracy singing is more prevalent than the screams.

Chuck, the bands frontman has a ton of personality and would easily fit beside Chuck Billy or Mustaine in the long line of great frontmen. Now they have released a six song ep entitled Hawksawcracywhich they hope will seenity sets of ears far beyond Maldives. This never lingers on for too long though, and they are quickly back on track. That is where Serenity Dies comes into play.

serwnity The vocals show a fairly broad range, and never end up sounding shitty in any of them. In this case, I think it fits. Formed inthey have been causing a stir in their home country.

Their self financed debut Murderwhich is unheard by me apparently was a big hit locally and put them on every major bill in town. Serenity Dies - Hacksawcracy. Last one on Mon Aug 23, 7: Perhaps Serenity Dies is an anomaly in their part of the world, I can't hafksawcracy for certain, but from what I'm hearing on this new EP, the secret may not be held for very long.

In fact, it reminds me of what Trivium was supposed to be: This leads to a seemingly mellower record, but before I give you the impression that this is a snoozer, yet me tell you that Serenity Dies is completely capable of kicking some ass. But Serenity Dies do this a lot better than most bands of their ilk, and there is enough of a more technical thrash axis they rotate about to maintain the disbeliever's interest.

What we have here is a solid slab of thrash metal. Crash quoted no quote.

Now Hackswcracy know, as soon as I wrote the word 'groove' in here or referenced a few of those bands, half of the readers probably tuned out immediately, but Serenity Dies deserve credit for knowing how to write a song like this and hang on to the listener's attention span through the sheer force of the riffing.

The guitar solos almost have a Petruccian quality to them that could easily melt many faces. The production is crisp and cuts through nicely with enough balls and chunk to please anybody.
